Investigation
Hi everybody!
I am a Dutch Student currently in Mexico City to investigate the Mexican offshore industry. This research is part of an international business research project issued by my unversity in the Netherlands. I have to identify the mexican market of ship building and repairment including the Mexican Navy. However, I find it very hard to find some information about the ship manufacturing for the Navy. Are for instance the Holzinger Class, Sierra class, Durango class and Oaxaca Class build by another company or by the navy itself? And what kind of equipment (engines, screws, etc) is used for those ships and who maintance it?
For me it is really hard to find anything about this subject and was hoping that you guys could perhaps share your knowledge since everybody here seems to know much more about the Navy than I do!
Thanks for any help you guys can give me!

Mi español no es tan grande, así que traté de hacer una trnaslation con Google Translate;

Re: Investigation
It won't be an easy task, but if you ask the right person (AFT2001) surely you will find the info you need. Mexican Navy and Army are very relentless to disclose any technical information but after a brief chat with that guy I.m pretty sure you will find the answers to your questions.
Also look for Falcon6 at [Tienes que estar registrado y conectado para ver este vínculo] he can also help in case you need access to the Ministery.
Kind Regards.
Good luck!!!

Re: Investigation
Sure!
I am a student at the university of Groningen in the Netherlands. I do a master in Business Administration with a specialisation in Operations & Supply Chains, which means that my study focuses on the more technical companies. Currently i have finished all my courses and only have to do my thesis report which will take approx. 6 months. The research i am currently doing is extra and not part of my normal program. It is just to gain experience with doing research and ofcourse to have a great time in Mexico!
Because of te technical background, my research is aimed at the technical companies/markets. Before I began with this, it was presumed that the ship building and ship repairment industry would be quite big because of all the offshore (oil) industry in the gulf. However it seems that this is not really the case.
The research part that i am currently focuses on is trying to find out which ship owners use which engines and propellers and why. Basically I would like a list of all the ships in Mexico (not only the ones under Mexican flag but also others that are active) and what kind of engines and propellers they. After that i can look for the reasons why they use these kinds. The focus in this is mainly on the propellers itself, but because there is in many cases a strong relation to the brand of the engine, I also focus a little bit on that.
The purpose of the research is to identify which players (companies) are active on the market and why they have a marketshare. Is it because of contracts? Distributors? Better performance? Marketing? With this information I would like to conclude what a company should do to get more sales and or market.
The information of the private companies is not very hard to find, but the navy really is and since the are one of the largest ship owners in Mexico, I really want to include them in my research!
