Mexican Navy to establish armament modernisation, upgrade centre

The Mexican Ministry of the Navy (SEMAR) has announced a MXN117.8 million (USD8.7 million) project to establish the Centro de Modernizacion y Desarrollo de Armamento (Armament Modernization and Development Centre: CEMODARM), according to a document published by the Mexican Ministry of the Treasury and Public Finance (SHCP) in early October.

The CEMODARM is to receive an initial MXN50 million in funding before the end of 2014. It will consist of administration, research, laboratories, and workshop facilities and is scheduled to be operational by December 2015. Its initial tasking will be to provide modernisation and upgrade services for the marine's infantry and vehicle-mounted weapons and electro-optical systems.
